Giovannella, Carlo, Nicoḷ and Federica: a family whose lives revolve around Volpaia. In fact, Volpaia is not so much a place as one of the family, giving and receiving the same love, nurturing and care as every other member. Giovannella, super-active and ever on the move rushes from Volpaia to all the main wine events in Italy and the rest of the world. Under the guidance of Carlo's skills, where organisation and enterprise prevail, they have all found a life fulfilling project which is in keeping with their surroundings and although international, is deeply rooted in local traditions. Although Nicoḷ is a young executive building a career in Milan his presence is very much felt in Volpaia. Federica who's enjoying great success as an art restorer in Florence, is always on standby and present at all the main events.

Lorenzo Regoli is our new manager and our first resident wine maker. In 1996 he graduated in agricultural science with maximum honours. Presciently it was entitled "Research into the selection of sangiovese clones." Chosen from a long and impressive list of applicants, Lorenzo has already made many great improvements. Lorenzo came to us from an important winery in Fruili and has all the attributes and experience required of a first class resident wine maker and manager.

Riccardo Cotarella has made his presence felt as consultant wine maker at Volpaia for the last few years. He has made a tremendous name for himself through his successes at a number of wineries with very varied requirements. He was elected "Enologo dell'anno 2000" by Gambero Rosso, "Winemaker of the Year 2001" by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and "Enologo dell'anno 2001" by AIS Rome.

Raffaele Ceccarini is in charge of sales and customer relations. He studied graphic art and advertising and worked in several agencies in Rome before moving to Siena where he became interested in wine. After working free lance for several wine shops in Siena, he decided to let his love of wine take over his life and came to us in Volpaia. Extrovert, enthusiastic and bursting with energy, if you come to Volpaia you're bound to meet him.

Simone Vignali is one of those people of whom the Italians say, if he didn't exist you'd have to invent him. He joined us as a young tractor driver in 1991 and has worked his way up to foreman in the vineyards and head of the olive mill during the hectic olive harvest when farmers bring in their olives to be pressed from far and wide.

Giacomo Caini is responsible for our vinegar from its production to its bottling and without him our salad would have no zest. When he's not busy with the vinegar he dedicates his skills to the bottling plant and became a resident of Volpaia in 2003.

Sandro Giancane has been responsible for bottling and shipping since 1992 and is the most senior member of our staff. Energetic and efficient, nothing can stop him. Our bottling plant holds no secrets for him and, in his honour, it was painted in the colours of the Licorno - his Siennese contrada.

Carlo Burroni is our indispensable cellarman. Effiicient and meticulous he is Lorenzo Regoli's right hand man. He moves carefully and quietly between the cellars and the laboratory and treats our wines like his children.

Cristina Mattei After travelling and working all over Europe, to our immense pleasure, Cristina decided to settle in Volpaia.
